Introducing the well-orchestrated process behind Karis Health Choice

You’ll find there are many ways we are making healthcare work. With Christian healthcare sharing and employee benefits addressing the cost and accessibility of health care, you can be sure your organization will be offering a preferred alternative.

Those electing Karis Health Choice will be supported and fulfilled by a nationwide community of committed Christians who have found a way to align their Biblical faith with their healthcare decisions.

Hartzer Jessica

Jessica joined the team with a desire to help people and make a positive difference, a common element of "DNA" among our team members. She serves as a Patient Advocate and works with providers to secure a fair and reasonable price for procedures, reducing member’s medical bills and out-of-pocket costs.

Durrett Rachel

As a Patient Advocate, Rachel works each day to understand the member’s situation, their outstanding medical bills and determine a plan to negotiate an outcome acceptable to all parties.

Kyleen works to provide members with cost and comparable quality options for non-emergency surgical procedures. The resulting information empowers members to make well-informed decisions that can be discussed with their doctor.

Healthcare Sharing by Samaritan Ministries

A proven way that’s different and uplifting

At the core of Karis Health Choice is a different and positive way to address medical bills. Karis Health Choice provides a full-service, non-insurance solution for your organization as well as individuals.

  • Comprehensive, accessible, caring service
  • No networks – keep and choose any doctor, hospital and specialist
  • A non-insurance approach that aligns with faith values
  • Plan designs that are compliant within the Affordable Care Act
  • Typical savings of 40% to 60% compared to health insurance approaches
  • A health care solution that brings glory to God

Our healthcare sharing approach is orchestrated through a partnership with Samaritan Ministries, a long-time provider of such services.

Sharing funds, sharing burdens

Through our partnership with Samaritan Ministries, The Karis Group offers an excellent alternative to health insurance. Samaritan Ministries is a Christian, nonprofit organization that has facilitated the sharing of funds between its members who have medical needs since 1994.

Not only do the members share in one another’s health care needs, they also have the opportunity to encourage and pray for one another as part of the process. An extraordinary experience for all involved.

Samaritan Ministries and its members are Christians who are able and willing to sign a statement of faith, who are active in their church, and who enjoy the privilege of fulfilling the Biblical directive of sharing one another’s burdens.

Members save about 40% to 60% of the costs that are typically incurred with health insurance plans. Monthly shares are much lower than what is usually seen in insurance premiums.

The Traditional Way

KHC Illustrations Insurance

In the familiar traditional approach, people send money to their health insurance company and a claims department processes and potentially pays providers of healthcare services.

The Alternative Way

KHC Illustrations Sharing

In the less familiar alternative approach, people give directly to other people as part of a process that is carefully orchestrated and known as "healthcare sharing" provided by our partner Samaritan Ministries.

Proven process ensures needs are reliably met

Rather than paying premiums into an insurance company each month, with Samaritan Ministries, funds are shared member-to-member, across all 50 states in a simple and relational way.

We partner with Samaritan Ministries International (SMI), a recognized leader in providing healthcare sharing. Every month, more than 200,000 members, share more than $20 million in medical needs directly—one household to another (as of January 2017). They also pray for one another and send notes of encouragement.

Getting medical bills paid

When making such an important change in your employee benefits plan, the most common concern is: “Will my medical bills get paid?” This is the fundamental question everyone has when switching from the “understood” approach of health insurance to the less familiar approach of medical bill sharing that is used by our services. The “sharing” approach is focused on people sending people the needed funds to put towards the medical bills. The process involves:

  • Gathering the bills — When a member has been treated for an illness or injury, they collect itemized bills from their doctor and submit them to Samaritan Ministries.
  • Processing the bills — Bills are reviewed to make sure they meet the Guidelines. Then members are assigned to send their shares to the member with the need.
  • Paying the bills — Members send their shares by the 15th of the month so the member with the medical need can pay their bills on time.
  • Have more bills later? — Not all the bills come at once, and that's ok! If more bills show up later, a member just sends them to Samaritan Ministries and the process begins again!

Your doctor knows best

Because Samaritan Ministries and healthcare sharing are not insurance, members can select any medical provider they wish. This means members choose their own doctor, dentist, specialist and more with no worries about being in or out of networks!
